Last weekend, the Fullerians U14 squad embarked on an unforgettable tour to the Gower, brimming with rugby, adventure, and team bonding. From a tough match against Dunvant RFC to pushing their limits at The Green Mile, the boys embraced every challenge—fueled by the legendary culinary skills of Mumma Ponder!
The tour kicked off with a highly competitive match against Dunvant RFC. The Welsh side showcased fantastic footwork and rugby prowess with impressive skill and structure, giving the Fullerians a masterclass in the sport. Nevertheless, the Fullerians boys—fully in tour mode—matched them with relentless spirit and determination, putting up a spirited contest. Dunvant were outstanding hosts, ensuring that both the boys and their parents felt warmly welcomed. The post-match atmosphere was just as memorable as the game itself, embodying the true spirit of rugby values. After the match, the boys enjoyed top-class Six Nations action in the clubhouse, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and absorbing valuable rugby lessons.
Post-match recovery took an unexpected turn when some of the squad decided a dip in the freezing Welsh sea was a good idea. Whether it was team bonding, an attempt at cold therapy, or just questionable decision-making, they emerged invigorated (and slightly blue).
Sunday saw the team venture to The Green Mile Training Camp in Taff’s Well, where they were taken out of their comfort zone. The grueling session began with intense activities such as wrestling and a cold plunge pool, testing their physical endurance and mental fortitude. The squad was then split into two teams, "shirts" and "skins," for the main challenge. A mile-long sandy and hilly course awaited, which they tackled while carrying a 50 kg log. The entire team rotated to ensure that four players were carrying the log at all times. Along the run, they also had to complete various challenges with the log, including plunging into a mountain stream. This challenge emphasized teamwork and collective strength, pushing them to their limits. The Green Mile team instilled discipline and mental toughness, helping the boys to conquer their inner doubts and step beyond their limits.
The Fullerians returned home battle-hardened, bonded, and brimming with memories. They played with passion, learned valuable lessons, and discovered just how cold the Welsh sea really is. A weekend of rugby, resilience, and camaraderie—what more could you ask for?
A huge thank you to Franklin Percival for their generous sponsorship of the tour, to Dunvant RFC for their hospitality, The Green Mile for an unforgettable experience, and, of course, Mumma Ponder and her dedicated kitchen crew for keeping the boys well-fed and ready for battle!
