The RFU has restructured the domestic pathway for U18 girls for the 2024-25 season, as part of its vision to prepare players to excel in world leading England teams. A centralised system of nine Player Development Group (PDG) centres, with investment from the RFU, as well as Sport England and The British & Irish Lions’ funding, will enable the delivery of a talent development framework nationwide, replacing the existing Centres of Excellence (CoE).
Fullerians RFC U18s Girls squad had 5 players nominated to attend the assessment days over the summer and compete against the top 1000 girls in their age groups.
The nine PDG centres will be located in the below County regions:
1 - Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria
2 – Yorkshire
3 - Staffordshire, Lancashire, Cheshire
4 - North Midlands, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire
5 - Leicestershire, NLD, East Midlands
6 - Middlesex, Essex, Hertfordshire, Eastern Counties
7 - Kent, Sussex, Surrey
8 - Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Dorset & Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire
9 - Cornwall, Devon, Somerset.
We are excited to announce that we have three of our U18s Girls squad selected for Centre 6. After attending a number of assessments, Abi Edwards, Ameilia Fox & Georgie Christophorou have all been selected. Commiserations to Amelie Silver and Xaynab Ahmed who missed out on selection this time.
Julie Goodair, Director of Youth Rugby, said “We have continued to develop our Girls across the squads. We have nine girls involved in the Herts U16s Girls Foundation PDG and now three girls selected in the U18s Girls PDG”.
Julie further added “We are proud of all the girls involved across the club and they work hard every week to improve. It’s amazing to see their efforts have been recognised as they progress through the England Rugby Girls Pathway. Congratulations to all the girls selected.”
The club runs girls only rugby at U12s, U14s, U16s, U18s and we also have a Women’s squad.
