This season the RFU have introduced a new player pathway for the Girls programme and created nine PDG Centres across the country. Each PDG group has around 30 to 35 players and they train regularly on a Saturday. This places the girls in the top 300 players in their age group in the country.
On Saturday 22nd February, Fullerians U18s Girls players Abi Edwards and Amelia Fox were selected to play in the “Maggie Alphonsi” South East PDG that has players from Hertfordshire, Essex. Eastern Counties and Middlesex.
Abi & Amelia played at Warwick Boys school against the North West PDG in a tough game. This was the 3rd playing opportunity and it was the first game for Amelia as she had been previously injured.
Both girls, along with Georgie Christophorou who was unavailable for this game will still have a 2nd season next year in the PDG.
The Fullerians U18s Girls Head Coach, Alban Barnes said “All three have been working hard on and off the pitch to give themselves the best opportunities. It was Abi’s 2nd game and she was able to build on her first game with Amelia finally getting her opportunity to play. Alban added “We are fortunate at Fullerians to have the girls involved and they bring so much back to club and their club team mates.”
