Welcome to Fullerians U14s 2021/22
The U14s age group is made up of boys who will be in School Year 9 as of 1st September 2021.
We are always looking to recruit new members to join our friendly squad of twenty plus boys who regularly turn up to train, play and enjoy rugby. We cater for players of all abilities, seeking to develop those who have been playing to a high standard with lots of ability and experience right the way through to those who pick up a rugby ball for the first time when they come to Fullerians.
We have RFU-qualified volunteer coaches and referees running the sessions, all of whom are DBS checked and focus on child welfare and protection best practices.
We offer structured rugby skills training in a game-orientated enjoyable environment in which the boys will develop new skills, make firm friendships and have fun. We will also have regular fixtures against other teams from the Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Middlesex rugby areas. In addition, we also enter County competitions and seek to organise an annual tour weekend.
We actively coach the RFU's Core Values of Rugby:
• TEAMWORK
• RESPECT
• ENJOYMENT
• DISCIPLINE
• SPORTSMANSHIP
Getting involved:
If you would like your child to play fun rugby with a great bunch of players (and coaches!), you are very welcome to join us, just turn up for a training session and give it a go with absolutely no pressure. Boys can join in for their first 3 sessions for free at any time of the season to see if they like it. Once you have decided to join then membership fee is currently £160 for the season.
Training & Playing:
We train on Wednesday evening (1800-1900) and have either training or fixtures on Sunday morning (1100-1230 – times may vary for fixtures).
Please ensure your child has some rugby boots and a mouth guard along with appropriate sports clothing/kit.
Communication:
We have a parents WhatsApp group which is used for useful parent/coach messaging, Q&As and sharing game videos and photos. There are also regular emails to update parents on how to get involved in club events.
Volunteering:
All coaches, admins and first aiders are volunteers. The club relies heavily on its volunteer community spirit. We do ask that parents help out from time to time in organising car parking and serving teas/coffees. Guidance is provided and it’s a great way to meet parents in your group.
Availability:
We use Team App to run our rugby fixtures and training and ask that parents update their boy’s availability for ease of planning training sessions and team selection.
Contacts:
Contact Jules Goodair at juniorrugby@fullerians.co.uk if you have any questions, or come to see what it’s like yourself at any training session (though do check with us first that we aren’t playing an away fixture!). We’d be delighted to welcome you to the club.
U14 rugby regulations for 2021/22:
We are committed to the principles of the RFU Age Grade Related Rugby program that should be being followed by all clubs and schools. Boys will play the same rules at school as they do with Fullerians which will make life a lot easier for everyone.
The key differences for U14 rugby are:
- Now up to 15 aside on a full-sized pitch (max 100m x 70m)
- Eight person contested scrums now have flankers with the No8 able to pick and run.
- Kicking at the posts permitted after tries and when penalties awarded.
- Uncontested lineouts (max 13 players): jumping allowed but lifting is not.
- Still no competitive leagues but knockout tournaments are permitted: most fixtures will remain as friendlies.
